Utilizing Oregon Rain Water - Our Steps To Become More Sustainable.....

We are proud to announce that we are using Oregon rain water in the process of doing our Batik Art Shirts. At the final stage of our process we boil the wax out of our creative shirts and have implemented using water we catch off our home studio roof in that process. Rin constructed the barrels by researching online and choosing the technique that seemed to fit the way it suited her needs. We have connected 2 (and soon 3), 55 gallon barrels that catch rain from the downspout and any runoff goes into a small bioswale that enhances the ground water and keeps it out of the Willamette River. It has been eye-opening to see the amount of water that collects, especially after this week of strong rain. Keep us in mind for your gift needs and know we continue to enhance our company's commitment to sustainable practices.

Artist in Residence Mural Project

West Gresham Elementary School Mural Project.... Completed!!!

During the beginning of April I will be an artist-in-residence at West Gresham Grade School. The elements of the mural will be done indoors and then installed to the East facing wall of the play area the children use for outdoor time. The children will be doing all the elements. K & 1st will be doing big panels with bright, blue paint and stenciling clouds in honor of Kyle (see below paragraph). The 4' x 4' panels shown have been changed to 2' x 2' with a theme of "Things That Fly" and will be arranged artistically above the pickets painted by the 2nd and 3rd grade students.

The official unveiling will be at the Arts Show which is being put on as a benefit for our brand new Kyle Riedel Memorial Arts Scholarship.  The proceeds from that night will go towards partial scholarships for students that want to participate in supplementary arts programs like MUSE band, Summer Arts Academy etc.  Kyle is the former student who died in a drowning accident.  His mom is the music teacher at West Gresham Grade School.  He was a lover of clouds so we wanted to incorporate that into the mural project.
